Jonathan Herbert, Viscount Clive (known professionally as Jonathan Clive) was born and raised in Canada, relocating to Wales as a teenager in 1993.
Following a career in medical research and public health, Jonathan joined his father, the Earl of Powis, in a full-time management role at Powis Estates in 2018, before taking over full stewardship of the Estate in 2022.
Born and raised in Shropshire, Jack graduated from Harper Adams University with a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management. He has over 20 years’ experience of managing privately owned traditional rural estates, fifteen of which was spent in private practice for a national firm of property consultants.
As Estate Director he is responsible for the day to day and strategic management of the Estate on behalf of the Herbert family, managing a busy and diverse rural estate portfolio which includes Ludlow Castle.
A director of a Shropshire-based farming charity, Jack also owns his own small farm, overseeing numerous building projects, conversions and refurbishments.
Outside of work, Jack is a keen ultra-distance runner and mountaineer. He enjoys travelling to adventurous places around the globe and has raised over £100,000 for various charities. Now with two young children, there doesn’t seem as much time for these things!
Julie has worked as an Accountant in both practice and industry since leaving college. She is a fellow member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and qualified as a Chartered Accountant over 20 years ago. She has extensive knowledge of working with a wide range of rural businesses in relation to their accounting and taxation matters.
Julie has always lived in the local area, and enjoys being involved with and supporting the local community. In addition to work, she is also a church treasurer, school governor and enjoys family life, swimming and walking the dog.
David has been a part of the Estate team for over 40 years and plays a key role in keeping the Estate Office running smoothly on a daily basis.
Outside of work, he enjoys quality time with his children and grandchildren, attending live music events, and taking trips in his motorhome.
Sam heads the Renovations team, bringing over 39 years of experience from his time with the National Trust before joining the Estate in 2021.
As a member of the Chartered Institute of Builders, he oversees all construction, renovation, and repair projects, while coordinating the efforts of the Renovations team.
In his spare time, Sam enjoys joinery, engineering, and exploring the outdoors through walking.
Lawrie joined the Estate in December 1989 through a YTS scheme and was offered a full-time position the following year.
Over time, he developed a strong focus on forestry and now oversees all the Estate’s forestry activities including planning, planting, fencing, and firewood production. He also plays an active role in deer management.
Caroline joined the team in 2023 as a Residential Letting Agent and is responsible for the residential lettings and management of the properties on the Estate.
Prior to joining Powis Estates, Caroline was an Estate Agent selling and letting properties in and around the Welsh / Shropshire borders. Outside of work, Caroline lives on a dairy farm and helps with the day to day running of the farm
Rachel joined the Estate in 2024, bringing prior experience as a PA supporting board-level executives in public and private sector organisations.
In her current role, Rachel delivers comprehensive executive support to the Chairman, ensuring the smooth running of daily operations.
Beyond her core responsibilities, Rachel also manages the Estate’s website and social media platforms.
Katie joined the Estate in 2020 to assist with the archiving of historic estate sales records, which also involved the digitalisation of estate maps, and overseeing all the ongoing digital mapping projects.
Having gained an AAT Bookkeeping and Accounting qualification, Katie’s role developed further in 2023 when she took over the book-keeping responsibilities for the Estate.
Joanne has been a dedicated member of the Estate team for over 38 years, having joined as an office administrator straight from college.
As the Estate has evolved, so has her role, particularly in managing rental properties and navigating changing legislation.
Outside of work, Joanne enjoys running and playing squash.
Mark represents the third generation of his family to work on the Estate, proudly upholding a legacy established by his father and grandfather.
With a background as a contractor, Mark brought 16 years of specialised experience in plastering, drainage, and roofing when he joined the team. As Foreman, he now plays a pivotal role in overseeing daily renovation projects and is also involved in deer management.
Outside of work, Mark is an avid mountain biker and enjoys a range of outdoor activities.
Oliver spent many years as a contractor for the Renovations department before joining the team full-time in 2024. Oliver is responsible for all woodwork projects, specializing in the precise craftsmanship needed for maintaining and restoring the Estate’s many historic buildings.
Outside of work, he enjoys bench joinery and fishing.
Matthew first joined the Estate as a Gamekeeper before transitioning to the Renovations team as a contractor. In 2024, he became a full-time member of the team and has a diverse role, applying his skills in both building and forestry to support a wide range of projects across the Estate.
Andrew joined the Estate in 1985, initially based at Lymore Park. Since then, he has been an integral part of the team providing support across all forestry operations.
Paula joined Powis Estates in November 2024, bringing with her a combined background in housekeeping and customer service. As Housekeeper for the Estate Office and the wider Estate, she plays a key role in ensuring all areas under her care are consistently clean and well-maintained.
