Our Estate

Here at Powis Estates, we strive to maintain and enhance both the natural and built environments under our care. Located near the Powys-Shropshire border around Welshpool within the Vale of Montgomery, we are responsible for managing agricultural land and award-winning sustainable forestry, as well as various heritage sites and Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

We also manage a number of residential and commercial properties around Welshpool and Montgomery, and are always looking for ways to actively support the local communities on and around the Estate. While mostly private to protect the natural environment and our tenants, we do have a select number of sites that we welcome you to visit and explore.

Land

From award-winning forestry and agricultural land to environmental sites, our Estate consists of a diverse landscape. By working with our agricultural tenants to set up viable businesses, and with the local wildlife trusts to safeguard endangered species and encouraging responsible land management practices throughout the Estate, we aim to manage this land in a way that protects it for future generations.

Forestry

Ensuring that the Estate is there for future generations is our responsibility, and our award-winning sustainable forestry plays a large role in this. We have been stewards of the Estate for nearly 450 years and as part of our estate management in Powys, we endeavour to manage 1,700 acres of commercial forests. responsibly to help safeguard our local biodiversity.

Over the years, our sustainable forestry practices have been recognised by bodies like the Royal Forestry Society, while we have also achieved the UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS) forestry certification. This means that all of our Estate firewood has been responsibly sourced, so you can heat your home or business in a more sustainable way.

Historical Sites

From motte and bailey castle ruins to an extended section of Offa’s Dyke, we care for a number of historically significant sites near the Shropshire-Powys border. Through our ongoing work to restore and maintain these heritage sites, we pay meticulous attention to the finer details so that we can respect the past and preserve our history for future generations to enjoy.

What To Visit
Community

With people at the heart of our Estate, we take pride in supporting our local communities through a range of community events, activities and facilities. We let various facilities to community groups of all ages, from Scout huts, school playing fields, nurseries and playgrounds to local bowling, golf and cricket clubs.

During the festive season, we donate Christmas trees to local schools and care homes. Throughout the rest of the year, our Welshpool, Montgomery and Chirbury show fields also play host to a number of events. See our Events Page for any upcoming events.
