What if your next meal could be enjoyed with a view of one of England’s finest medieval ruins? At Chapter 66, Ludlow Castle’s exclusive restaurant, that unique experience awaits. Opened in 2020 by chef and restaurateur Damien McNamara, this dining spot is nestled within the castle grounds, offering a relaxed experience in a truly historic setting. Here, thoughtfully prepared dishes are made with locally grown produce.
High-quality local ingredients are fundamental to Damien when he is curating his menus. He works closely with Ludlow-based farmers, growers and producers and takes pride in showcasing the best of the region’s seasonal produce. Not only are the ingredients carefully considered, but the artistic presentation of the food is also important to him.
As a hub of commerce and trade since medieval times, the town of Ludlow has had a strong food reputation for almost as long. Local growers and producers sell their carefully selected produce at the regular food markets in Castle Square.
There is a diverse abundance of foods such as cheeses, craft beers, local wild venison from Mortimer’s Forest, organic vegetables and breads baked with traditional methods, to name a few. It’s this very dedication to local produce and historic charm that makes Chapter 66 a firm favourite among visitors exploring the Ludlow food scene and seeking the best places to eat, especially given its centuries-old setting and delicious flavours.
As the trusted catering partner for Ludlow Castle, Chapter 66 not only provides food and drink for weddings and private events held at Castle House, but also serves the Ludlow Castle day visitors. Guests staying in the self-catering apartments at Ludlow Castle or nearby at The Custodian’s House receive freshly baked soda bread from Chapter 66 in their welcome hamper, with the option to order more directly from the cafe.
From Monday to Saturday, Chapter 66 opens at 9:30am for breakfast, cakes, and coffee, with lunch served from 12pm. On Sundays, it opens at 10am for drinks and cakes.
While the daytime service offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, the space transforms for special monthly dinner evenings. During these times, Chapter 66 presents a curated tasting menu with peak-season ingredients from the surrounding area. The main dining room seats up to 40, with an additional 40 seats available on the terrace in good weather.
We’re proud to support Damien and his team at Chapter 66 as they continue to grow and evolve their work. Whether you’re visiting for lunch, coffee and cake, or one of the monthly dinner evenings, we invite you to explore this castle restaurant in Ludlow and experience the local flavour and community spirit right here at Ludlow Castle.
