The festive season is upon us, and there’s no better time to explore the events happening in and around Powis Estates this December, where festive events await visitors of all ages.
Ludlow Castle, a historic landmark near Powis Estates, hosts numerous festive events throughout December. As the castle is a historic ruin with limited covered areas, be sure to dress warmly and wear suitable outdoor footwear. For details on pricing and times, please visit the official website.
Father Christmas is going to be kept extremely busy in his cosy tower at Ludlow Castle, as the ‘Meet Father Christmas’ experience proved incredibly popular and sold out very quickly! Children will be sharing their Christmas wishes, taking memorable photos, and receiving age-appropriate gifts.
If you are booked onto this event and have accessibility requirements, please contact Ludlow Castle in advance.
This year’s Christmas Tree Trail at Ludlow Castle promises to delight visitors of all ages. Trees, donated by Farlow Farm Nursery, are decorated by local businesses, organisations, and schools from Ludlow. Follow the trail using a leaflet from the ticket office and cast your vote for your favourite display. Extend the fun with the town trail to find the ‘Golden Tree.’ Completing the trail could win you a 12-month family membership to Ludlow Castle — a perfect gift that lasts all year.
While not officially part of the Estate, Powis Castle and Garden (National Trust) offers some spectacular festive experiences right on our doorstep.
Step back in time as Powis Castle and Garden transform into a Victorian wonderland, offering one of the most iconic festive events in the area inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Wander through atmospheric candle-lit corridors adorned with evergreen garlands and holiday displays that evoke the spirit of a Dickensian Christmas.
One of the most anticipated festive highlights is the Courtyard Light Spectacle at Powis Castle. This dazzling light show illuminates the castle’s exterior, creating a magical winter wonderland after dark.
Admission is included with standard entry, and National Trust members enjoy free access. No booking is required, and extended evening hours allow visitors to soak in the atmosphere.
Seeing the castle lit up is a cherished tradition, and even from our office windows, it’s a sight we look forward to each year. Embrace the festive spirit this December – whether you’re seeking family fun, historical charm, or dazzling displays, there’s something to make your season merry and bright.
