Powis Estates Provides Climbing Tree for Montgomery Play Park

Here at Powis Estates, we support the local community with a range of events, initiatives and activities.

We were especially excited to get involved in the new Montgomery Play Park, which will provide much-needed children’s facilities to the town. Our contribution saw the installation of the park’s first ‘Climbing Tree,’ – an ancient fallen oak taken from the Parkland at Powis Castle on Powis Estates grounds, ripe for hosting wildlife and the imaginative adventures of little ones.

About Montgomery Play Park

Montgomery Play Park is a community-led project which has been several years in the making. Brought to life by a tight-knit team of local parents known as the Friends of Montgomery Play Park, this nature-focused space is intended to fill the gap of local children’s play areas and allow for more interactive and imaginative play.

Working closely with the town council, the Friends of Montgomery Play Park have been raising funds since 2020 to deliver on their goals. We were delighted to join in the project by providing the park’s very first piece of equipment – a gigantic fallen oak sure to ignite the imagination of adventurous young minds. The Climbing Tree is a suburb, wildlife-friendly choice for the park.

The Story So Far

The Friends of Montgomery Play Park have been extremely busy since the idea for the park first sparked back in 2020. So far, they have:

  • Worked with the council to find a suitable place for the park and obtain the necessary planning permission.
  • Hosted Christmas raffles, scarecrow competitions and many other fun local activities in order to raise funds.
  • Amassed over £35,000 for the park through a number of grant applications and fundraisers.
  • Planned and sourced equipment for the park with a focus on natural materials and sustainability.
  • Joined forces with Powis Estates to see the installation of the very first piece – our beautiful Climbing Tree!

What’s Next for Montgomery Play Park?

Now that the Climbing Tree has found its forever home, Montgomery Play Park is beginning to take shape, with many more exciting additions due to arrive in the coming weeks. From a thrilling zip line to basket swings, activity frames, mud kitchens and sound pieces, all equipment has been constructed using natural materials where possible, in a green space that blends beautifully with the local environment.

The Friends of Montgomery Play Park are hoping to continue expanding and building on the success of the project with more equipment for a wide range of age groups and will continue fundraising for ongoing maintenance of the park.
