We are incredibly excited to play a part in hosting the 2027 Tour de France, placing Powis Estates on a truly global stage.

The Grand Départ of this iconic event is coming to the UK and is set to become the largest free sporting spectacle in British history, with millions expected to line the route through Scotland, England, and Wales. For the first time ever, the Tour will feature three UK stages. Previous UK stages include Yorkshire (2014), London (2007), Plymouth (1994) and Brighton (1994). It will also mark a historic milestone as the women’s Tour travels outside mainland Europe for the very first time.

Welshpool will be transformed as the Welsh stage begins from the High Street. The peloton will enjoy a rolling start through the Estate’s Park Lane, descending into Lower Park and continuing through the Deer Park before passing beneath the iconic Powis Castle on its journey to Cardiff.

The Tour de France is the world’s greatest cycling race, and we are honoured that the 2027 Grand Départ will pass directly through the Estate. Its return to the UK is the result of an ambitious and collaborative effort involving event stakeholders and key event partners including British Cycling, UK Sport, the UK Government. This represents a major strategic achievement that will deliver lasting economic and social benefits for the region and the wider UK.

Jack Tavernor, Estate Director said “I am incredibly excited with this announcement and delighted that the Estate can help to host the tour, which will undoubtedly bring with it a whole host of economic and social benefits to Estate, region and UK generally”.
